The social, health, AND risk perception lab
VALUES
The SHRP lab operations according to multiple guiding principles. This list is not exhaustive and is a work in progress.
-
Diversity, equity and inclusion
-
This lab strives to be an inclusive space where individuals with all identities are treated with utmost respect. Diversity is critical to advancement of science. Lab meetings include discussion of topics related to equity, inclusion, and accessibility, and we seek to incorporate these principles into our research.

-
Growth mindsets
-
All members of the lab are constantly growing and learning. An academic environment is an ideal environment to facilitate learning and risk taking. Adopting a growth mindset means approaching feedback as a way to improve, rather than as evidence of one's failure.
-
-
Communication
-
Open and respectful communication is a key component of this lab. Viewpoints of all lab members are respected and contribute to the ongoing learning and growth of lab members. Asking questions is always encouraged.
-
-
Collaboration
-
Collaboration among current lab members and external collaborators is highly valued. Science can advance more rapidly when knowledge and expertise are shared across individuals and disciplines. Much of the research in this lab is accomplished through collaboration with members of other labs both at Kent State and at other universities.
